Guys, I need help.

Go to solution Solved by watts300,

I'm really getting mixed answers here... :(((((((

How about this.  I changed up @Amazingasian 's build a bit.  Upgraded the video card, and still have a real nice power supply that is still more than enough for those components. $17 over budget... but, can you scrape $17 somewhere? Probably in the cushions of your couch or under the seat of your car.

CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($172.89 @ OutletPC)

Memory: G.Skill Sniper 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($34.99 @ Newegg)
Video Card: PowerColor Radeon R9 390 8GB PCS+ Video Card  ($294.99 @ Amazon)
Case: Cooler Master N200 MicroATX Mid Tower Case  ($43.99 @ NCIX US)

Or pick a completely different case that's a little cheaper.

Alright so I'll explain. I want to build a new computer because my current one isn't really up to par with my gaming. It can run games like CSGO and LoL just fine at max settings, hell it can run GTAV on medium settings at 720p 60fps. But it's starting to show it's age, struggling in new AAA games. I honestly just want to run any game no problem max settings at 1080p. I am looking to up my resolution in the near future, but the main reason I need help is simply because of the build. With Skylake now out and DDR4 hitting the mainstream, I want to get into all that business. If I decide to go that route, I want a nice case and am probably going to go with something like a R9 390 graphics wise, so I'll be sitting comfortable at 60fps maxed out in most games at 1440p. (I might even go with something more powerful like a GTX980 or something) Being that this build is going to be $1200+, I don't exactly have the money right away and would have to save up, so it's probably not going to happen until sometime next year.

However part of me is saying that I should stick with older but cheaper and reliable hardware, like a 4460 in a cheap case with a cheap SSD, don't really have my thoughts on a GPU yet but A GTX960 is looking decent (or I may get a more powerful but older one off of craigslist). I would like to keep this sub $700. Being that this is a budget build, high-end hardware really isn't too much of a concern.

So the question is: Should I wait (like 6 months) and save up to buy an all-out 1080p-crushing beast of a pc, or should i just build now for like $600-$700 and be content with my setup and decide to build my "dream PC" in 2 or 3 years from now?

(Sorry for this being so long but I really can't make up my mind so comments would really be appreciated. I've built many computers in the past but I do need help with this one.)

Definitely wait it out man, I have a friend who waited (no joke) 3 years to build his PC, and it is a monster that can run every game on ultra. Just save up and you won't regret it, compared to buying an average pc which you would  probably end up upgrading often anwyays.

This is a really good price/performance rig.  Yes, the PSU is extremely overkill but when you upgrade in a couple years, it can be one of the components you transfer over.

Build a $700 computer now.

That's still a VERY decent machine especially with all the sales and rebates happening right now.

A coworker of mine built a $500 computer that includes a R9 280.  He was a bit bummed at first... but then last night he was playing Battlefront on High with good frame rates. He's happy with it.

$700 will be really nice.

I think I'm going to build one right now for cheaper. anything above a 390 for 1080p gaming is overkill, plus there's always room to upgrade in the future. And I can start saving up for my next PC after this one is built, where Pascal will be out and affordable and skylake will be the go-to for anything. At the the end of the day I really don't need the new Intel architecture or DDR4 for enjoying my games. Anyways thanks to you all for the answers, hopefully this build is a success.
