for the sake of consistency, no that doesn't make sense, but something like having 400 DPI with 2 in game isn't going to be better than 800 DPI with 1 in game

it was a joke

Try aiming for the lowest sensitivity you can while retaining full range of control/movement for the best consistency. But remember, while a lot of pros like to play at old sens. from their 1.6/Source days, they are also playing at 1024x768 resolution, etc. My suggestion is to not try to adjust your settings to what the pros use and expect to be better, you need to find what's most comfortable to YOU.

Nothing wrong with a 4:3 resolution, but you are human, you can learn to adjust. I played at 1024x768 during the older CS days, but now I play @ 2560x1440 with 800dpi/1.2 ingame sens.. I go up and down from Supreme and Global, so I feel I do ok with what I run.

Now, the biggest thing is, you will have people spouting opinions to you, such as don't double scope, etc. etc. They aren't you, and while there are habits you should form, some of the naysayers have downs. If you feel doublescoping works for you, I say use it, so long as you know where the enemy is, being double scoped can mean easy flicks to someone not in your sights, even the pros use that technique, so take a lot of shit as "advice", with a grain of salt..

If you want to form good habits, purely subjective, but I'd say watch some of the pro teams games and see where it is they flash, where they smoke, where the smokes land, how they check corners and spots, where and when is a good time to prefire, etc. etc. There's lots of a useful things you can pick up by simply watching games, the biggest issue is being able to repeat it while you are playing, which just means practice. You can also replay your previous played games and watch yourself play, you can look at it and take notes on what you did and instead what you feel you should have done in that situation(s).

Oh yea, and practice, practice practice practice.

Low sensitivity helps me. Good headphones to listen to footsteps. Learn callouts. Dust 2 op.

144hz monitor, good mouse, mousepad, mech keyboard, and skill.

You don't need a 144hz monitor... I managed to get to global with a shitty 60hz monitor.

Advice from global:

- Don't play dust2, it's full of smurfs (higher ranked players buying a new account so they can rek new players) and occasional cheaters, you're gonna have a bad         time.

- Lower sensitivity, even if you think you already have a low sensitivity. For reference: I use 800 DPI and 1.5 sensitivity in-game.

- Play a lot of FFA deathmatch, no official Valve deathmatch servers. Just go to 'browse community servers', search for de_dust 2 and you're good to go. Make sure   you play a lot on Headshot Only servers.

- Always warm-up before playing a competitive map (so playing FFA deathmatch, either headshot only or normal), even if it's only 15-30 minutes.

- Buy a decent microphone and communicate a lot with your teammates. If they're mad russians or something, I'd suggest opening console and typing

  "voice_enable 0" without the ".

Those tips should be good enough for starters, ask away if you have any questions.
