OK, so finally I have decided to get rid of my laptop and build a PC. Gonna build for the first time, so excited.

I mostly will use my PC for 50% gaming and 50% software development (compiling android ROMs). I mostly play games like assassin's creed, farcry, call of duty, fallout 4, cs etc. but not competitively. I have two choices:

Build 1:

CPU: Intel i7-5820k

GPU: Gigabyte G1 gaming gtx 970

CPU cooler: NZXT kraken x61

Motherboard: ASRock x99 extreme6

RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws 4 16gb 2133mhz cl15 DDR4

Build 2:

CPU: Intel Xeon e3-1231 v3

GPU: Gigabyte G1 gaming gtx 980ti

CPU cooler: Stock xeon cooler

Motherboard: Asus H97 Pro-gamer

RAM: G.Skill Trident X 16gb 1600mhz cl7 DDR3

Rest of the components are same for both:

Corsair obsidian 450D mid tower case

Seasonic X-850 850w PSU

Samsung 850 EVO 250gb SSD

Western Digital Caviar Blue 1tb

Benq 1440p monitor

Now as you can notice, one build has a powerful GPU while the other has a powerful CPU. I plan on using this build for at least 4 years. I'm really torn between these two builds and I can't find which one to choose, so maybe an expert could help me out on this.

Thanks

BTW, my first post in this forum :)

Welcome to the forums :D Please remember to follow your own threads c:

As for the builds, I'd go with build 1 with the GPU changed to an R9 390 as it has much more VRAM than the 970 (8 compared to 3.5) which is helpful at higher resolutions and if you don't plan to SLI/Crossfire in the future a 600W PSU would be fine.

I don't know. Never used an amd video card before, also many people are saying that, AMD doesn't update their drivers frequently!? As for the PSU, I know it's a bit overkill, gonna check the x-650, but I will oc the 5820k, if I choose the first build.

AMD released a new driver either today or yesterday which should've optomised them for Fallout 4, BO3 and Star Wars Battlefront. As I said in the post, the R9 390 outperforms the GTX 970 at higher resolutions.

Surprisingly, the r9 390 costs more than a gtx 970 in my country :(

Which country? Because the 3.5GB of VRAM on the 970 will be a rather large issue at 1440p..

India. It's 5k inr more(about 75$ more). If it's worth it I have no harm to spend that much money.

Also, anyone, thoughts about the second build?
