Can a M.2 adapter be PCIE X4 2.0 Generation ? Or the PCIE version depends on the M.2 SSD than you throw on it ?

For example, the Kingston Hyperx Predator is 2.0 Generation. If I put a 3.0 NVME on it, will it work at 3.0 bandwidth?

Answer from Kingston :

Dear Flaviu,

The SNA-HHHL/P is suitable only for our M.2 PCIe Predator SSDs - we do not guarantee that it will work with any other SSD type.

Kind regards,

Kingston Technical Support

I don't thinks so. It will max out to the speed that the SSD can handle. I had a similar question: "Is a M.2 (3.0) backwards compatible with an M.2 (2.0) motherboard?".

Hmm I don't see why it wouldn't its just a way of converting 1 interface into another so as long as you've got a 3.0 slot it should work at 3.0 speeds providing you buy a pcie x4 m.2 SSD that is...

Is there a reason you want to use the kingston adapter and not a cheaper alternative like this one?
