Fallout 4: Lagging, need advice.

Go to solution Solved by Ostwind,

I don't even know what to clock it to to make it run better. Don't know what's safe and also i figured out it wasn't my FB usage with the problem. it was actually my gpu usage. Now what...

what do you mean its your GPU usage? The only way that can be a problem is if the GPU usage is low which means there's something causing the GPU to run incorrectly or there's a bottleneck. Since you have a 4690k a bottleneck is not likely.

I got fallout 4 and the game is amazing. unfortunately the only problem i have had is that when i run the game on a fullscreen, my FB usage % on afterburner says that it's at 99%. However, the rest is very stable: cpu and gpu temps, load and everything else are perfect. but the only thing that goes through the roof is the FB usage. I read somewhere that FB usage has to do with memory. But not sure if it's RAM memory that's causing the issue or GPU ram or what...

I solved this problem by running the game on a smaller resolution. When i do this i am able to play ultra graphics, anti aliasing, etc. very well. But the only problem now is that it's a small window...Anyone able to give some advice as to how i can best run this game so i can have a fair balance of great, amazing quality with a good size screen. Thank you very much.

Btw my specs consist of a i5 4690k at 3.5 ghz, gtx 960 at 4 gigs, dual monitor, 8 gigs of ddr3 corsair vengeance ram, asus z-97a motherboard etc.

I also run the game 60 fps with occasional frame drops to around 45-58 fps depending on my settings. Also, if you are a noob try not to give advice on this post. I prefer to hear back from someone who has had a similar problem or experience.

I realised that just outside diamond city lags the crap out of the game.

Take that into account.

Funny, because that's where I am right now. But what about the FB usage? What is that? What in my computer affects that and is it safe to keep it on high load? So many questions lol

I don't know what it is exactly but i highly suspect it to be vram.

I think it is safe to assume that having it at max is probably a good thing.

Fallout 4 can hit a 960 pretty hard, try these settings. They're what I run on my 3570k and 960 4GB though my 960 is running at 1600/8350 so unless yours is running at a similar clock your performance wont be the same.

With these settings I get a pretty stable 55-60FPS experience though there are some areas in dense cities that drop frames hard no matter what the settings are turned to.

You don't even need Godrays on to be honest. Difference is negligible.

What is ur detail usually set to?

The detail setting determines the other settings, which change the look of the game so it's not a setting in of itself just a preset selector. Overclocking your CPU will help too, the game can use up to 8 threads so if you have less than that the more clockspeed you can throw at it the better.
