Well, i have posted quite a lot about builds and the lot, but i finally managed to do something which has discombobulated me. I accidentally pulled my power cable out, subsequently cutting the electric in my house. When my electric came back on, my computer wouldn't boot so i opened the case, nothing smelt funky so i was confused. I decided to use a old lead, and that wouldn't boot either. I came to the conclusion it was blown, but it has none of the typical signs, except for a few abnormalities on the pins on the power supply. It was EVGA 500w white which i have had no problem with at all. If anyone has any idea what happened or if its fixable please let me know.

P.S i checked the internals and no capacitors looked dodgy.

You opened a PSU?... brave and silly person.

If you have tried a new lead to rule out the possibility of the fuse in the plug breaking, and you are sure your system gets no power at all then It would suggest that your PSU is broken yes.

edit: Have you tried using another wall socket?

Try the paper clip test and see if it turns on. You take a paper clip and stick one end into pin 15 and the other into 16 (or the Green and Black wire). If that doesn't work, then it is probably dead.

PSU's have internal fuses that break to stop damage to your Hardware (sort of self sacrifice, Over Volt Protection). Its possible that one of them have broke but they aren't replaceable and you will want to be buying a new PSU.

ok thats that off my mind, i thought is was unusual but, £30 for £470'worth of gear is definately worth it

If you are buying a new PSU and it still wont turn on then you can return it anyway :)... then again you are going to have larger issues to deal with if that is the case.

Usually no unless there was a surge when you lost (or regained) power. If you want to open it up again, you can look for a burnt fuse. Probably isn't that but might as well check. If it's burned, you will have to RMA it.

Take a look at this guide since it explains it better than me lol http://www.wikihow.com/Check-a-Power-Supply

Do you mean you opened your PC case, not the actual PSU itself?

He did both.

GG. You can try to return it to the store if it's new. Otherwise you'll either need a new PSU or learn how to solder well enough to replace high voltage electronics :P
