First Build Problems

Go to solution Solved by BlueChinchillaEatingDorito,

Clear the CMOS to clear all BIOS settings. Afterwards, boot the PC into safe mode. To boot into safe mode, restart the PC and just before you get to the "Starting Windows" screen, hit F8 and it will bring you to the Advanced Startup Menu. Scroll down to Safe Mode with the arrow keys and hit Enter. In this mode, it will boot Windows with minimal programs and drivers. Let the PC run for a while after it finishes booting into Windows and see if it freezes like before. If your PC freezes even in Safe Mode, then you will need to reinstall Windows.

To get out of Safe Mode, just simply restart the PC from the start menu as usual.

Hello everyone!

I have after some years decided to build my own computer. And I got some problems as this is my first build. I did build myself a basic system to start with, Intel G3258, 4GB RAM, 120GB SSD.

So the problems are two;

  • My PC won't start at first try. Always starts at second. It's weird and I need to figure it out.
  • When it have booted up to desktop, it freezes for around 2-3 minutes. This is while only Chrome and a few other apps installed.

So is it anyone that have the same problems or can help me out? More than that my system is fully running and stable, yet not finished.

Help me out. Thanks

hug0mac

What OS are you on? we need some more details

Do you have a PCPartPicker link for your build?

Hi, I use Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. My PC specs are in my profile but it's an Intel Pentium G3258 and 4GB of ram, 120GB of SSD storage.

All worked fine on first boot. But since some days it started to work strange.

hmm... i've heard about issues with the kingston v300 SSD (not very fast, note very reliable), but I don't think it would cause that.

try reinstalling windows. It's kind of a pain, but its worth a try

You know that guy that games on a MacBook? I'm that guy.

Ah to reinstall windows, that pain. I know that the Kingston V300 isn't the best but I am thinking of getting a M.2 Samsung 850 instead. (Just for the no cables thing) You think it could be the SSD that is crapping up? That it doesn't boot at first try and freezes at start?

I think you need more ram. 4gb is probably not enough. Send a pic of your cpu and ram usage.

What happens on boot? Have you gone into bios?

It boots as normal. Default settings, just messed with the fan control. CPU is stock, ram as well. I do believe it's the SSD as was explained before. I don't run out of RAM. CPU is working low. Internet is fine.

Does that monitor normally work? And what is outputting the graphics on your computer?

Yes it normally work as it should, It has 1 dead pixel though. It is the iGPU of the Pentium G3258. I use the I/O on the motherboard. Nothing wrong there either.

Thanks for the info, I will try this when I get time.

Safe mode and CMOS did help to figure out if something was wrong. I did also reinstall windows on two seperate drives I had laying around (nothing too fancy) and tried, it worked fine, then did try my ssd again and it had problems! So because of that I was sure that I had to get a new boot drive, went and got a Samsung 850 120gb M.2 and now all runs amazing as it used to.

Thanks for the help, LTT are amazing with it's helpful members!

Also a bit off topic, I need some tips on the "future system" i am getting parts for;

Any tips?

I would probably spend a bit more on the case as it's gonna keep your parts in it but if you don't have the money the 100R is a great budget case. Other than that there's nothing else wrong with your build. :)

i knooow. but it look very modest and small and that is good! also... you did answer to a almost 1 month old post  ^_^ based on pc part picker, im the only one that did put stuff as that in a 100R... so i had to! i like to be special. but i changed out some stuff as i had some spare money.
