so i have 2 WD drives, 1x1tb and 1x500gb. i know i can i know you can raid 2 of the same drives but can you raid 2 different size drives and should i do it or just stick to them being 2 separate drives 

My speakers dont even fit on or under my desk...PA's FTW

You can RAID two different size drives, but RAID will be limited to the smallest drive (Your 1TB would be crippled to 500GB to match the smallest drive).

 

I would stick to having them be two separate drives.

Bingo. In this case, it would be entirely a waste of time. Using RAID0 with 1x 500GB + 1x 1TB drive would give you the same amount of storage as the 1TB drive by itself.

There are software RAID-like layers called "JBOD" (Just a bunch of disks) that will combine multiple drives together into a large virtual drive. But they have their own issues and quirks.
