Title says it all. I want to be able to stream games and do some editing for youtube. I already have one set of 2X4GB DDR3 1600Mhz, but if adding another 8Gb kit will help I'm willing to-do so. I have about a $400-500 USD  budget for this upgrade. I'm thinking about getting a capture card as well. Will a capture card help with streaming/recording? If so is it by a lot? and can you recommend one at a reasonable price. Thanks in advance for any help!

4690K + Z97 MOBO + 8GB RAM kit?

230     + 130             + 40                = 400

Opt for Skylake and you'll be at 500.

A I5 for streaming and editing? I thought an I7 would be much better for those two?

I'd personally opt for a Xeon E3-1231-V3 instead.

Ya i was looking at that too. A H97 board probably won't work, I couldn't find any with SLI support (2x970s).

Then opt for the cheapest Z97 board you can get. I'm sure there are a few options under 80 USD.

xeon 1231 v3 +msi z97 pc mate/asrock z97 extreme 3-4/ asus z97-e, cheapest z97 mobos with sli support

Xeon 1231 v3 + Asus Z97-E seems like a nice combo I love Asus's BIOS + fan control options. Would adding another 2X4GB ram kit (for 16Gb total) improve editing/streaming performance? Also what about a capture card will that help with streaming/recording?

yes 16gigs or ram would definitely help with streaming/editing performance. just make sure they are exactly the same (mhz speeds, volts, cas latency etc) or get a 16gb kit.

I cant answer about the the capture card, since i have not used one.
