Hello!

I have a low-end rig which isn't really for gaming, but that's what I use it for, however I'm worried about temperatures a tiny bit as things are heating up but also I have never installed any case fans and I'm curious.

I opened it up and found a space to mount a fan at the back next to the motherboard.

I have a few questions regarding this...

Firstly, I have a GT610 graphics card with a small fan, a Pentium G2030 with an intel stock cooler, and a 500W PSU which intakes.

The graphics card fan is too small, so I guess it just circulates air. The PSU fan I know intakes because no hot air is coming out from it at the back, but from the inside instead.

Does the intel stock cooler circulate, intake or exhaust?

Also, should I get a static pressure fan to intake cool air on to the CPU (considering there is only so much room at the back of my desk), or an airflow fan to exhaust? There are no intake or exhaust fans apart from the PSU - there are only 3, which are the PSU fan, the CPU fan and the GPU fan.

Which Corsair fan is good for this?

Finally, do you measure fans in diameter, across or whatever? I want to measure and make sure that I get the right 120mm or 140mm fan or even 70 as I have no judgement in this so my 120mm estimate may be wrong.

PS: Hyper 212 EVO good investment or not worth? Thanks :)

snip

First of all measure the diameter in centimetres and convert it into millimetres (so for example, 12cm = 120mm).

Then after that you know the size, choose any Be Quiet! (Pure Wings 2 or Silent Wings 2) or Silverstone fans. Corsair isn't that good, as they aren't that efficient for the noise and speeds they have.

Do some tests while gaming and measure the temps with HWRMonitor, if you see the CPU reach high / not safe temps, then buy a new CPU cooler (not a fan for the stock cooler, it's not worth it).

Cheers,

The Slimy Pig.

The PSU will blow hot air out of the back, and intake either on the top (inside the case) or bottom (through the bottom of the case) depending which way it's oriented.

The intel cooler isn't really intake or exhaust, it just pushes air down through the heatsink + across the motherboard.

What kind of temperatures are you currently getting?

If you do need a fan, I would get an airflow fan as intake in the front of the case.

Fans are measured length by width. (they're squares)

The Hyper 212 evo is a good cooler, but not necessary unless you're overclocking the cpu. (but you'd need a z series motherboard to do that anyways)

No intake fans are possible, the case isn't built for it.

Which is why I'm asking, if I should get an intake static pressure as I was thinking it could force cool air onto the CPU cooler

CPU temps ~58 - ~62oC at load (~92%)

~50 at idle

GPU  temps ~62 - ~65 either way but ~67 at gaming (1080p ~ 50-60FPS)

H61 mobo and locked CPU so no overclocking here

If its not really for gaming I cant imagining it overheating as such. But if you're concerned perhaps you should cleanout the interior of your computer, dust and stuff may be clogging airways etc. Not only that but you can install a free program called "Speedfan" I use it and its fantastic. Its a free app that allows you to control your fan speeds, aswell as monitor internal temperatures. So if you're afraid of overheating, just turn up the fan speed. Thats what I do and it works every time. This method will save you quite a bit of money!

When I say I turn up the fan speed, I mean my Case fans, allowing more airflow into my case, resulting in lower temps!

I hope this works for you, Id suggest trying that before upgrading to a physical fan :) Have fun!
