So o was thinking of building a system around a Intel Q6600 Quad core processor i got out of a dell xps 420 but its on the LGA 775 platform will i have a performance degradation? will it be capable of gaming? Insight and suggestions welcome

You can do some light gaming but don't expect to play anything crazy at high settings. It would be fine as an all around PC, but if you're going to make a build out of it, it might be pretty expensive to find NEW parts that work with it.

you'll probably limit your gpu depending on what games you play , but you should be fine for anything not cpu intensive.

If you need a budget option , just go for used sandy bridge like a 2500k.

I currently run a system with a 2500 non-k (yes, that was stupid to, get, I know) with a GTX 970 and I can run the usual demanding stuff (Witcher 3, Crysis 3, Farcry 4 etc.) just fine, both at FHD and QHD. CPU is around 90% at some times but that is rarely the case. I have yet not experienced any bottlenecking through the CPU, so IMHO the LGA775 plattform still does a fine job right now

get a 750 ti and you have yourself a balancedish rig. good for playing games on a mix of medium and low

If you can find one, get a 650 Ti Boost. It performs better than the 750 Ti. I have one running on an older system with a QX6700 @ 3.2ghz and 8Gb of DDR2. It runs most games on medium anywhere from 30-50 fps.

ive actually ran a 650 ti boost AND a 750 ti in my q6600 system and i would recommend the 750 ti simply because of low power consumption. the difference in frames was like 2 and good luck finding a 650 ti boost for under 115. i sold mine for 100 this morning.

Motherboard: ASRock G31M-GS R2.0 -micro atx-

RAM- 8gb (2x4gb) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) G. Skill

PSU: 500w 80+ certified EVGA

Wireless: ASUS PCE-N10

HDD 2tb Seagate barracuda
