Hello  everybody,

I'm maxime. In first time of ma life, i build a powerful PC to develope my own software AI et physic simulating program.

In my work, i use my firm cluster's to make my own simulation but it isn't enough flexible for me.

My config is this:

CPU: i7 5960x ( friends composant)

Motherboard: Asus X99-E WS (i want to buy this)

Ram: DDR4 128go 2666 mhz (gift of my firm)

GPU: 2 gtx titan x 12go (friends gift) or 1 nvidia tesla ( i buy this) 

Tower: corsaire 900D ( i own this )

Power supplie: evga 1600 watt

watercooling: 2 way

1: ram+ cpu for 1 140*140 and 1 120*360 radiator + swiftech mcp 650

2: gpu 1 120*360 radiator + 1 120*480 radiator + swiftech mcp 650 

 

want do you thinks about this ?

i want to develope mpi simulation of molecular dynamique coating and thermodynamique modelisation in material

all the misspellings (or is that just a bit of french leaking into your english) make me sketchy as to whether this is a troll or not. but whatever. I'll byte (<-what a tech forum does to you).

 

you know the strange thing, depending on just how complex this simulation and AI is, it's probably under-powered, that's why supercomputers are used, with monstrous compute potential. It should handle sort of Game Development level stuff (NPC AI's, basic water and collision physics), but for things like accurately modeling forest fire's, tidal systems, and the like, it would probably handle quite poorly. Again, it depends just how accurate we're talking.

It's basically for my own use and test my own ideas

I do not think as much as a cluster dedicated to succeed but do further things.

I know I need a lot of dynamic memory to solve the matrix calculations and accuracy of the calculated depends on the single or double precisions floats.

I also like to use in parallel several software I has (COMSOL Multiphysics, AutoCAD, ProEngineer and solidwroks)

well it may be worth a try (either way you'd end up with a kick-ass system)/

I have lot of doubts of compatibility of CPU and Ram memory and motherboard ....
Intel core i7 5960x can only support 64 go in 2133 mhz .... my ram is not usable with this CPU ????

LTT did manage to get 128GB working on a 5960X maybe intel just wasn't expecting 128GB of ram to be a thing when writing out the spec sheet.

SLI is actually a game-y thing, in this use case iirc it works differently where the cards work separately as opposed to combining power.

 

what i think you really need is a/some Quadros like the K6000 apparently they're better at maths based tasks than the Tesla, and the Titan X is really bad at it (it's intended for rendering more than anything else). and for a more all round system stuff a Titan Black or 780 Ti in there along with the Quadro.

I can buy with my firm PNY QUADRO M 6000 2100 euro but i can't use a multi GPU integration with this graphic card. the programming environment and architecture computing are closed. 

I thought rather use 2 gpu less powerful but tough to go faster and also have enough of the 2 * 12GB of DDR5

it's a real headache this assembly ^^

For the graphic rendering, i use my homemade meshing or software rendering (comsol multiphysics rendering generally)

I thinks to buy other titan x, it's less expensive for me.

explication: gtx titan x deliver 6600 GFLOPS single precision and 206 GFLOPS double precision processing power.

7 or 16 significant digit, i need just 7 digit for simulate the fondamental forces in materials

and if i want to upgrad the precision, i use firms cluster's ^^
