Questions about RFID (sorry if I put this in the wrong sub)

Hey guys, so I saw a thing this morning where somebody used what seemed to be an RFID chip to broadcast a signal to a reader to  unlock a lock. I was  wondering if this is how it works, and I could do something like send a signal to a reader and turn on a computer? Thanks

Well you could buy some NFC tags and WOL your PC with your phone.

I do own Tasker and I have spare tags but been too lazy to setup this as my PC is on close to 24/7
