BIOS update

I'm helping my friend out with his first pc and he's on a pretty tight budget. I'll admit it's probably not a perfect build but it should be plenty good for the money. I'm putting an athlon x4 860k in there but pcpartpicker warns me that some A88X chipset boards will require a bios update to use Kaveri cpus. How do I go about updating my bios if my motherboard and cpu won't work together?? I'm assuming it won't boot into the os if it needs to be updated. None of the tutorials I read addressed this scenrio very well. Thanks!
