DAP recommendation?

I am trying to build a portable setup and want a DAP that can use spotify and other streaming services and enough to power th-900 and a12 once I get a pair. I don't mind stacking using a portable amp/dac like mojo, but a standalone device like dap is prefererred due to battery and space issue. Currently looking at the onkyo dp-x1, but I'm open for anything under $1000.

Why not just use a smartphone and get a portable dac/amp? That would probably be the best solution since you're okay with stacking.

Could but like I said, don't really want to drain battery and space on the phone if the dap performs just as well as an amp/dac.

Most amp/DACs that are for mobile devices (to my knowledge) have their own batteries built in, so if anything, they will charge your phone. Also, if you're using Spotify, you'll be streaming for the most part. Also, if you haven't, you should get a phone with a micro SD card, unless you're absolutely in love with your phone [emoji14]

Oh spotify is just a nice thing to have, lossless and dsd is expected if I'm going to shell 1k for a music player. Currently using the note 4 which does supports micro sd card, I just want something purely for music you know :P

I had a dx90 that I liked pretty well, but it won't do Spotify. It will, however, drive pretty much any headphone you want with the possible exception of the he-6.

Yeah, seems only a few daps like onkyo dp-x1 and sony nw-zx2 are capable of streaming. Best to wait for reviews once the dp-x1 actually releases I guess.

Probably, especially since the Sony's are very well known for having too little power for many full size cans.
