Hi all!

Fallout 4 is coming, so time for some upgrading! I can build a desktop just fine, but I've started using laptops recently, so it's time to build an eGPU!

The laptop should be more than good enough:

Thinkpad W530

i7-3940XM

16GB PC3-14900

Nvidia K2000M 2GB

So I plan on using a Nvidia GTX 960 4GB in a PE4C-EC060A V3.0 (PCIe x16 Adapter) with a PSU I still have lying around. The GTX 960 will be hooked up to a 1080p monitor.

Does anyone have any experience with this setup, or comments, or want to tell me it's never going to work?

For completeness sake:

1. Budget & Location (About €350,- & the Netherlands)

2. Aim (Fallout 4 looking nice!!)

3. Monitors (One 1080p monitor) (Perhaps someday an upgrade to a 1440p)

4. Peripherals (Already have everything)

5. Why are you upgrading (Because I can, and because I want to play Fallout 4 nicely)

Thanks in advance!

BendBoy

Screw the 960, grab a 380/280 instead(unless there's some kind of compatibility demand since the gpu in the laptop is nivdia.

Thanks for the quick replies!

But why the 380?

And I'm not asking if the 380 is better than the GTX 960 as a GPU, I'm asking if it's better for what I have in mind. Because I can do my own research for which card is better, I'm asking specifically for the eGPU setup I'm trying to build. Any thoughts on that? And I'd love to hear the reasoning behind it!
