Hi, Just wondering are hot swapping drives considered internal or external storage? I'm getting some strange results for a server build I'm planning.

usb and thunderbolt are hot sawp, sata drives are is you set your controller to AHCI in bios ^^

if you go into you bios, and set you sata controller to AHCI, you will have an option to enable hot-swap on drives

well sata is an internal connection, its the connection you use for any drive...

are you using a normal computer toweror server case for your server?

Depends on what you're hot swapping. USB and Firewire are hot swappable and they're external. SATA is hot swappable but that is internal.

Server case, I don't know the correct terminology but I believe it is that or server chassis or something idk

Depends on what you're hot swapping. USB and Firewire are hot swappable and they're external. SATA is hot swappable but that is internal.

ok then, if you plan on having many drivers, in a raid array get a raid card, make you raid arrays, and configure them so that you can hot swap then in case of faliure
