Memory Question?

I just got G.Skill Ripjaws Z  DDR3 2133 memory, and out of stupidity after paying decided to look up the specs to my msi gaming 970 board from amd it only supports 2133 (oc) would i still be able to use the kit i got or not?

i mean this is whats on there for my board 1600 MHz, 1333 MHz, 1066 MHz, 1866 MHz, 2133 MHz (O.C.)

Im not trying to if you read im trying to see if i could run the 2133 ram i just got on my board that has 2133 (oc) and 1866 max

Just tune down the clock speed.

 

But again, I beg you; don't run speed at anything different than its rated speed.

The max non-OCed Memory is 1866MHz but you can OC it to 2133MHz

dude I had the same problem recently, at default it will run at the mobo's top non-OC speed (this might be slower) BUT you can OC the ram up to the rated speed (just test for stability), you MIGHT have to feed it more voltage tho, I wouldn't go above 1.6 if the Ram is stock at 1.5V

So the board would set it up 1866 max, then i see if i can push it to 2133 and if not 1866 is still good,

IF its at 1866 you can OC in the BIOS/UEFI to 2133 or just leave it, it shouldn't matter in the end

Even if its stock speed is at 2133???

I doubt it will, your mobo SHOULD nerf it to 1866 at stock but there's only one way to find out, dw you shouldn't break anything unless you're super unlucky

well I ran 2 sets of ram, one at 1600mhz and the other at 1866mhz and my mobo only supports 1600mhz non-oc and I didnt blow up

 

 

so if I can run miss-matching Ram on a $200 mobo and not die i'd say you'd be pretty safe
