Lol SSD

Go to solution Solved by AresKrieger,

They look a tad slow to me, but I don't know what the specs for that kingston ssd are.

I found something to compare to @Deftones

I just ran a test and...

At0rAhI.jpg?1

SSD model: Kingston HyperX Fury 240GB

Durability: I've been using it for 10+ months now.

Recent failures: none

Current PC:

board: dp965

port: sata2

controller mode: ms-ahci in registry and bios

cpu: intel core 2 duo e 6600 2.4ghz

ram: ddr2 667mhz 4 gb total dual channel

operating system: mswin8.1 pro

Are these speeds normal?

With a SATA3 board, will I "feel" the difference?

Not really no. You would only notice a difference in transferring files. Loading times will not change enough.

It's not worth the upgrade if you are asking that.

NP I'll build a new pc. It seems I'll have to buy a better SSD too...goddamn.

no, that ssd is good enough for 99.9% of the population.

But I want much faster...

Then you are looking at m.2 ssd's :)

Is M2 socket transfer speed noticably higher than SATA Express?

m.2 is sata express, just a new standard. it's much faster than sata 3 if that's what you are asking.

m.2 maximum speed is 32Gb/s (4GB/s) (i think), Sata 3 6Gb/s (750MB/s)

Sata 3 does feel faster than 2, but doesn't make much difference in day to day activities. Sata express is something different, it uses pcie lanes and so does m.2. The high end standard is using 4 pcie lanes. Drives that do that are very expensive.

-snip-

port: sata2

-snip-

is it a sata2 port or the 2nd sata port?

if it's sata2 your problem might be there, since a SSDs speed gets (nearly) fully utilized on sata3, or m.2 etc.

sata2 is just kinda old to get fast speed from an SSD

May the light have your back and your ISO low.

that might be the problem then, your SATA 2 connection is a bottle neck for your SSD.

But I do think the write is much too low, even for the SATA 2 connection. There must be something else going on, I think.
