Would this work alright?

Altaren
Go to solution Solved by don_svetlio,

Do you guys think cm b500 ver 2. would be a solid upgrade? I think i could do that instead.

CM B-series is much better - it can withstand more heat I believe

EDIT: Yep, 40*C tolerance, that's better.

Building a pc for a friend and i am very limited in terms of component availability. Please dont make recommendations on components unless youre sure that something doesnt fit or otherwise wouldnt work at all. I just want to make sure everything fits and i havent missed anything. Especially i am curious about the psu. Extreme power supply calculator states a 400w minimum so if i can get away with the 450w vs it would be great.

i5 4460

ASRock h97 Anniversary

Alpenföhn Silvretta - 92mm

HyperX Fury 2x 4GB

Either an ssd+hdd or a sshd, still deciding

Sapphire Radeon R9 380 Nitro Dual-X OC, 4GB

Regular DVD-RW

Corsair VS450 2014 - 450W

BitFenix Neos Midi-Tower

Thanks!

seems fine as a build SSD+HDD is the way to go

IF you can get hold of a better quality PSU then that would be a smart move

double post? :P           follow your own topics...

just get the Cooler Master Hyper TX3 Evo (20 euros same as alphenföhn ) or any other not low profile cpu cooler.... so you wont get problems with ram or other components

try pcpartpicker its easier for most people here to check the parts then

whats the total budget maybe there are build improvements possible? changing psu ;)

Bigger PSU, R9 380 is pretty power hungry. Get an XFX, Seasonic or anything else on @STRMfrmXMN 's PSU whitelist: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/404921-strmfrmxmns-psu-whitelist/ . The cooler is probably unneccesary, as the i5-4460 can't be overclocked, and runs really cool on the stock cooler.

Main Gaming Rig:

Core i7-4770, Cryorig M9i Cooler, ASUS B85M GAMER, 8GB HyperX Fury Red 2x4GB 1866MHz, KFA2 GTX 970 Infin8 Black Edition "4GB", 1TB Seagate SSHD, 256GB Crucial m4 SSD, 60GB Corsair SSD for Kerbal and game servers, Thermaltake Core V21 Case, EVGA SuperNOVA 650W G2.

Secondary PC:

Spoiler

i5-2500k OCed, Raijintek Themis, Intel Z77GA-70K, 8GB HyperX Genesis in grey, GTX 750 Ti, Gamemax Falcon case.

380 is about as power hungry as a 960, I don't see what you mean by "pretty power hungry"

Again i asked for thoughts on compatibility only.

Best i can do is a 20€ more expensive TT Hamburg 530W and i dont know if thats worth it. As for the cooler, the cpu comes tray and that one costs the same as the stock cooler would.

Try get a better PSU, ;)

I wanted to make a seperate topic because i thought people wouldnt consider the mobo/cooler compatibility in a thread like this.

VS PSUs are about as good as the CX series, and those aren't good for builds like this.

I need it to last around 2-3 years minimum. Do you think it has a solid chance at achieving that?

Thanks to all so far

I don't  know, and signs are pointing towards no. Can you get a PSU imported or dropping the GPU or CPU down?

CM B-series is much better - it can withstand more heat I believe

EDIT: Yep, 40*C tolerance, that's better.

If you want to save money, you dont really need that cpu cooler stock cooler does fine on a non overclocked cpu

I don't actually give useful information, hopefully I just  say something funny.
