Does anyone know how to "reset" the naming on the generic audio device name, when you change USB ports the device then becomes "2 - Random USB Name", for instance it did it with my Samson GoMic, it did it in the past with my Logitech USB headset.

I'm trying to search for a solution but having no luck.

Probably would involve removing the device and deleting stuff from registry, but just not sure and don't want to break anything without knowing.

Thanks :-)

In Windows 7, right click the sound icon in the notification area, select playback devices, right click the device, select Properties, go to the General tab, change the name, press ok.

unplug it

restart the computer

plug it back in

and don't remove it after?

I don't really know what to say.

it means absolutely nothing.

Will work for electronic components and parts

Are you saying windows doesn't remember the name after you unplug the device? That'd be a device problem, not a windows setting.

I think it happens with the generic usb audio drivers, its happened with my USB guitar device as well, when it installs the device it must remember the usb bus, and when you move it to another port it just adds another one.

This has had the same behavior on Windows 7.

I'm going to try the unplug, restart, replug thing.  I'm not sure if I've only ever hotswapped it.

Thanks guys.
