Hello LTT forums. I'm thinking really hard about getting a steam link and controller due to sometimes I would just like to chill on my couch rather than really close to my monitor. Would you recommend a steam link with the steam controller or is there another alternative. At game (UK store) I can get the controller, link and a 20 quid steam card for 99 pounds.

Its a great product, ordered mine last night

You can use ANY spare PC at home for streaming so if there are any spare desktops or laptops etc then that would work, potentially you could stream to an Android device too, or get an Nvidia shield device

You can also stream to like chromecast and Apple TV with 3rd party software but its not so reliable from experiance!!!

So basically this is for super ass rich people who have like 10 desktops around the house? Cos I have 1 desktop and 1 Laptop in my whole house (which i have access to). I personally think Chromecast is useless.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

What is for rich people? confused

Steamlink is a great idea, and is really cheap too

Chromecast I find super useful, can stick it into any TV in the house and stream stuff to it, and the new audio ones turn existing hifis and docks into a full blown Sonos style system for cheap

Is the steam controller any good?

Only used it for a few minutes, so hard to comment, I think I prefer the regular xbox pad though the sticks are better for games

however the steam pad is great for mouse driven games

Steam link. Since it's only really useful if you have quite a few PCs lying around.I was going to ask if the controller was any good because I'm interested in that.

HUH? you connect it to your TV in the living room and stream from your PC.. why do you need to have multiple PCs? you are making no sense - its for people who DONT have multiple PCs

Not used one for long enough to say (I dont own one yet)

I have ordered both and there will be a full review up in time :D, I am not sold on the touch pads, I prefer the sticks but they are great for playing games like Civ or RTS games since the analog stick is just horrible for that

Honestly I will just use my old wireless 360 pad most of the time tbh, because I am so used to it after like 10 years of usage

I've not used Link myself so I can't recommend it. I like the idea and the price seems pretty good for it's size and look.

I will not buy it since I use my old office PC that I got from work.

If you don't care for the looks you can look around and see of you have some shops or online store who refurbish old office PC-s. You can easily use 5 maybe even 10 years old office PC for streaming games. Install linux on it and you're good to go. But it also depends on the price. Those office PC-s look ugly and are bigger then Link. So Link might be better value.

Now I DON'T own the Steam Link, but my friend does. He let me borrow it for a week because he was going on vacation. During my time with it, I'd have to say that it's some top-notch stuff. The controller feels so smooth and very comfortable! Now the buttons on the device reminded me of an Xbox controller (I'm starting to think Xbox partnered with Valve on the project), but nevertheless, it was well worth the test run. I'm probably going to buy it myself in the near future!

The Link itself is very easy to use. I had absolutely no problems streaming my games from my computer into my living room TV. All I had to do was connect to the interwebs and it'll detect my PC without a problem! The interface was very intuitive and easy to navigate through. Too bad I had to part ways with it one week later. :(

In the great words of Todd Howard:

"It just works."
