Hello everyone, first ever message here after reading you guys for quite a while.

 

Alright, so I received a new set of custom cables and wanted to make them look as clean as possible. Now, these are the parts that are involved in my question:

 

- GPU 1 with two 8 pins connectors.

- GPU 2 with two 6 pins connectors.

- Two '6+2 + 6' pci-e cables.

- Tons of single '6+2' pci-e cables (which I would like not to use for now).

 

 

So, I planned to use a single cable for each GPU, but while it would be possible using one of the '6+2 + 6' cables for GPU 2 (I would just 'hide' that 2 pin extension), it is not possible for GPU 1, as I don't have any dual '6+2 + 6+2'. So, I've been thinking about it and came out with this possible solution:

 

I would connect both '6+2 + 6' cables from my PSU, then run them into GPU 1 using the first connection each (6+2), and then running the second chain of both cables (6pins connector) into GPU 2. In short, each cable would go from PSU, to GPU 1 to GPU 2, in that particular order.

 

That way it would look clean enough, I would only be using 2 cables in total as previously planned, and every pin would be pluged in without having to hide anything at all.

 

My question is, would it work? Would I break any GPU or even the PSU for that? Would it be reliable? I know GPU 1 would have no problems at all, but what about GPU 2?  My PSU is a good one imo, EVGA SuperNova G2 850.

Why just make it simple and have a daisy changed 6+2 for each GPU so you only have two cables in total to the GPU area.

 

That would be 4 cables in total. Each GPU need 2 connections, first one need two time 8 pins, and second one needs two times 6 pins.

 

Anyway, I tried and it worked, but ended up setting 4 single cables and then routed them to make a clean look.
