i am getting a cheap mic of amazon and i was wondering if i would need to get an external power supply for desktop PC as the product description says it dosn't need one for desktop PC and also says it needs a 48v phantom power supply.

whjat do you mean with "external psu for desktop pc"?

it says that if your computer can provide enough power you don't need the 48v power supply - so if you're using a desktop it should work just by connecting it to the jack

I would not recommend this microphone.聽 It is an XLR microphone which is more designed for studio uses.聽 It will be very quite with the provided adapter cable and would ideally be connected via. a box to actually provide power to it, which of course blows the value out of the window.

edit - you could buy one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Behringer-PS400-Micropower-Phantom-Supply/dp/B000FG795I/ref=cm_cr_dp_asin_lnk and connect it in between the microphone and your computer, using the provided XLR to 3.5mm cable going from the power supply -> your computer, and another XLR to XLR cable going from the microphone -> the power supply.
