Alright, so I got an iPhone 5s a few weeks ago for $200 from a friend of mine. It worked fine, but I was temporarily using a Samsung USB adapter (5.3V 2A) instead of the oem Apple charger which is 5V 1A. After a little while I noticed my phone starting to heat up a lot. Then the screen started bugging out and I was left with vertical grey lines and what I'm assuming is heat damage to the screen. So I bought another screen off eBay, and when I received it I noticed that the connector for the LCD was bent (the contacts were broken and screwed up) so I tried to bend it back a bit to see if it still works. It worked, but there were still vertical grey lines appearing, and the connection started to heat up (I'm assuming it was shorting out).

Now, my question is. Should I try to buy another screen or do you think I fried my logic board? The person I bought the phone from agreed to take it back (long story short me and my family buy a lot of stuff from him and he doesn't want this to look bad on him) but If I can get away with just buying a new screen then that would be a lot easier.

Are you fucking dumb.

You never ever use a charger with more Volt than the input, thats just suicide.

Of course it fried, thats a phone circuitry not a full blown PSU that can handle higher voltages. Shit I blew up my router once as a kid because I used a higher voltage charger than default.

-SNIP-

I remember this, as said before the charger wouldn't have damaged the phone but it seems like your having problems with the vertical lines on the screen due to bad contact with the pins previously and possibly shorting out.

That samsung charger should not exist.  USB spec is 5 volts plus or minus 5%.  5.3 is well above that.

I do not believe the screen is the problem, just gonna say that.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

I understand that. But I am used to Android where you can use any shit and it works. I realize I fucked up, trust me.

Yea I probably will end up just getting a different screen but I really wanted to be 100% sure before I invest too much time in to this.

That's true, one thing you can try is re-seating the connector or apply pressure when the phone is on and open to see if the lines go away or change if that's the case then it's a connector problem. Hopefully on the screen side of things or you would need a new board for the phone if that was the side that is damaged.

Yea I tried all that. The connector is so fucked up it wont even stay seated by itself without coming undone

Yeah that's very likely the cause of the problem with the vertical lines then if the connector on the logic board is the one that's damaged. Unfortunately you might be out of luck.

No no I mean the one on the screen. Physically, the logic board looks 100% fine, even under a magnifying glass.

Oh ok, is this another screen you got that's also had a damaged connector since I remember the first one was a bit sketchy since the part had fingerprints and stuff on it.

Nope, same screen. I was just contemplating getting a new one or just returning the phone.
