Intel CPU future

Go to solution Solved by Benji_w,

So is it worth it to buy i5 4690K

No, Everyone always says not to buy a CPU from 2012, so why not just buy skylake and be done with it.

Depends.

The difference in price between 4690 and 6600

Whether you want to buy new ram  (DDR4)

What you have at the present time for a cpu

Do want a couple extra fps and faster "productivity" program scores. (there is difference in benchmarks but not sure how significant they are in the real world).

You won't be buying a new 1151 CPU anyway, as that will be in 1 year of time and you sure don't want to be wasting money that fast.

When it comes to if it is worth, it is not. It never was. the Xeon 1231 V3 always beats it in performance and mostly in price too.

The answer is IBM.   IBM > Intel+AMD.

I see where you are going with this, but you are wrong. Sure, IBM has a better architecture and technology, but people won't give up AMD64 that fast. And IBM made it clear multiple times that they are not interested in consumer market. Maybe if Linux gets more love among users, other architectures will have an easier way into the market.

EDIT: I wouldn't mind ARM becoming mainstream on desktops. More companies -> more competitien -> less overpriced Intel stuff.

I can see you are newer here.  That's kinda my humor, and I know that.  IBM's focus is servers and AI/Quantum Computing.  Lenovo makes all the stuff they used to like the Thinkpad.  I had a 9370[replaced with a 4790k], and I also have a 925/Phenom II X4.

Be it humor or not, I'd rather see PowerPC than AMD64.
