Problem connecting multiple monitors

Dear forum members,

I purchased a new PC some time ago, and I'm extremely happy with it. Although I have one little problem.

I started out using only one monitor, which was fine at the time. Although now, I want to add a second one, which seams quite a problem.

So I'm using a GeForce GTX 750 TI as graphics card, which has 1 VGA output, 2 DVI-D outputs, and 1 HDMI. And I've currently got my first monitor (A pretty old Packard Bell) connected via the one and only VGA output. I decided that before actually buying a new monitor, I wanted to test the setup with some older monitors. So I grabbed a really, REALLY old monitor (You know, the big bulky ones), and tried connecting it. Since it only had VGA output, I bought a small VGA to DVI-D adapter, because I only have 1 VGA port which is occupied by my main screen.

Although it seems, that both the DVI-D ports don't seem to work with neither of the screens I have (The really old one and my current one). But both of the screens do work in the VGA port. I asked the company which assembled my PC, and they said it was because I was probably using a passive converter. So I went to my local electronics store and asked for an active one, which would cost me around 60 dollars (The passive one was about 7). Since I think this was a bit too much, I wanted to ask you guys first.

I've also looked all over my bios (Using A MSI H97 PC Mate as motherboard) and NVIDIA settings to find options about multiple screens, but couldn't find anything that worked.

Thanks in advance,

Luuk

Which version of the 750TI do you have? Because most only have 1 DVI port.

The only thing I know is that my PC says it is an NVidia GeForce GTX 750 TI, and the card itself has ASUS logo's all over it.

do you know the really old monitor works?

Yes, I tested the old monitor in the VGA port and it works perfectly fine
