Hey guys,

I have a question. I just bought the Kingston HyperX Fury 8 GB DIMM DDR3-1866 2x 4GB kit for my PC. I upgraded from 2x2GB 1600Mhz. My question: I don't exactly know whether my PC supports 1866Mhz. I have a Medion OEM PC with a AMD A10-6700 with intergrated Radeon HD 8670D GPU and MSI (OEM) MS-7857 motherboard. I bought 1866Mhz because I want to boost my gaming and normal performance and some people say that APU's like having high frequency RAM. I read that the PC will downclock the RAM if the frequency is not supported. And is it possible to brick my PC or something by having non-supported RAM? Will it still run in dual-channel mode? Because I also read that having RAM running in dual-channel mode can boost performance. And will having high frequency and large capacity RAM have a huge impact on everyday and gaming performance? (because I'm used to 4GB for quite a while now)

IT depends on the use case, but 4gb is enough if you're very careful with your memory usage and if you're not playing any super demanding games. Upgrading to 8 will definitely be beneficial, and the faster memory will help a bit if your board supports the faster speeds (although not by any truly meaningful amount).

But no it won't cause any damage and the worst case scenario is that it just runs at the highest speed that your board supports.

dont worry.. all is fine, u wont brick anything  :) no gaming impact as long as there sufficient ram for it. 8gb is the best bet if ur multitasking bit, 4gb is bare minimum nowadays. For APUs, they use the ram as VRAM. so yes having a wicked fast ram will benifite u alot.. up to around 2100mhz

While i don't know if your MOBO supports 1866, it probably should, you may just have to enable it in BIOS.

As far as bricking your mobo with faster RAM? thats not gonna happen.

The only real benefit of faster RAM is when using APU (and in certain applications such as BOINC and F@H) but im not sure if the jump from 1600 to 1866 will be noticeable, the jump from 4gb to 8gb will be the bigger factor here i think.

When in doubt, re-format.

It won't brick your PC. You might not feel any difference in performance with a single program open, but if nothing else doubling your RAM will definitely smooth out your performance in general. A cursory check of Crucial's site for upgrading that board shows that 8GB 1866 kits are okay for that board, so you shouldn't have any issues.
