5820K VS i7-6700K single core performence

Go to solution Solved by manikyath,

the skylake processor has better single core performance for two reasons:

- skylake has higher IPC than haswell-E

- a quad core is easier to overclock than a 6-core (and skylake turns out to be quite the overclocker if you try hard enough)

that said, unless you REALLY need all the single core performance you can get, dropping down the single core performance for that 20% extra rendering performance may be worth it.

most well-coded games wont notice the difference.

The title says it all, does the Skylake quadcore have better single core performance over the hexcore 5820K?

I'd be using the CPU for gaming primarily, but I'd also want to do some video rendering, and possibly some streaming as well.

Thanks in advance for the advice!
