I currently have an Intel Core i7-950 running at 4.41GHz (210*21) @1.475v, with Load-Line Calibration set to Level 2. I am using a custom loop to cool my CPU but I have been getting very hot temperatures.

CPU Temperatures are 55 degrees Celsius when idle and could reach 92-99 degrees under heavy load (LINPACK test in IntelBurnTest/OCCT) - Overclocked

However, when the CPU is not overclocked, the temperatures are at 40-45 degrees idle and 65-70 degrees under load

I am not sure if the temperature is normal, despite the enormous heat that the CPU creates

Custom loop spec:

  • EK Supreme LTX Copper Plexi
  • EK Bay Reservoir
  • Laing Thermotech D5T Vario 810N (Standard Top)
  • EK CoolStream XTX 240 w/ Cooler Master Xtraflo 120 Red in Push/Pull
  • Masterkleer Orange 1/2*3/4* Tubing with EK PSC fittings
  • Thermaltake UV Green BigWater Coolant

PC Spec:

  • Intel Core i7-950
  • GIGABYTE X58A-UD3R Rev2.0
  • 12GB DDR3-1333 Kingston
  • MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GD5T OC
  • I don't think I need to list the drives
  • Corsair RM850
  • Cooler Master Storm Trooper Window

The radiator is mounted on the bottom of the case as intake

In short,

  1. Are the temps normal?
  2. If not, what is wrong with the loop and how would I fix it?
  3. Should I get a second radiator? (I'm looking for a Koolance 280mm radiator)

NEED X58 BOARD WITH SATA3 ASAP

Re-mount re-apply thermal paste make sure that cooling unit is tied down on the CPU slightly.

I think this is most likely normall anyway you could try & remove the IHS but i'm not sure your CPU has even bad IHS this was mostly common in Haswell & stuff:

Yes, they are and the thermal paste I am using is the Cooler Master Extreme Fusion X1

Should the waterblock be screwed in tightly or loosely?

BTW, thanks for the quick reply!

Just make sure its making good contact dont brake your mobo in half like Linus says...

Idk but i'm using Artic Silver 5, MX-2, IC Diamond

1.475 is really high voltage do so yep its normall LOWER OC to fix this.

To much voltage I would say. Try going back to stock speeds and check your temps.

The IHS on the CPU is soldered, so I cannot delid it

I'm also running 4.41GHz all time. Is this normal for this specific CPU?

Can a second radiator help with the temperatures?

Something like a

Koolance HX-CU1402V + Noctua NF-A14 industrialPPC-3000 PWM push

I run a i7 960 & regularly was getting those temps - but in a HTPC case with stock fan - no OC. Changed the case with a average after market CPU fan, and they've dropped - somewhat.

These chips & x58 combos run notoriously hot, and is made worse by the shocking northbridge temps.

Can I ask your northbridge temps? And how's the airflow in the case itself? Grasping at straws, but it could be an overall heat generated thing.

NB Temps are around 70 degrees Celsius. The case is a CM Storm Trooper Window, currently with a 200mm exhaust fan on top, 140mm rear exhaust, 2 120mm fans blowing across the hard drives (sideways) in front, 4 120mm fans with a radiator on the bottom (p/p) as intake. PSU fan faces down.

Hopefully this helps! Thanks for the reply!
