It's still speculation. The 7970 wasn't that cheap when it was released.

but the 7970 didn't have competition when it was released the 9970 will, I agree its still speculation though

its speculation now anyway but why not buy something with a little better performance for less $$$ unless you need physx or cuda

because it is just speculation.

Saying that an unreleased product will outperform another product, while also being cheaper is just stupid.

just wait for the release.

yeah I agreed it was speculation I was just saying if something were cheaper and gave better performance no matter how little the extra performance is its a better deal, I wasn't saying it would outperform or be cheaper than the 780 :)

It's not about whether they combine into a single virtual unit. It's about achieving better performance in specific areas.

yeah but a single 780 will provide the best performance in every single scenario he spoke off (no opencl accelerated scenario)

9970 is supposed to be %10 faster

I predict that speculation is way off.

It will be about 20-40% faster i assume.

GTX 780 28 nm 48-192-2304 863/3004 384 Bit 165.7 GT/s 3977 Gflops 288.4 GB/s

9970 is RUMORED to be over 8000 Gflops..., texelrate and pixel rate are also quite higher if i remember correctly, so yeah 5-10% speculation is without any ground whatsoever if those rumors are correct, you looking at anything between 20-60% faster (depending on pixel/texel rate).

For reference, AMD 7970 GHz:

HD 7970 GHz 28 nm 32-128-2048 1000/3000 384 Bit 128,0 GT/s 4096 Gflops 288,0 GB/s

To the OP, I think it is not worth it, you should just grab 780 if CUDA is thing you use.
