CPU fan profile 0%?

Could you get a fan controller and just manually turn it down to 0% When you want it there?

Is there a way to put my fans at 0% on for e.g the hyper 212 cooler? I don't have it yet but im using the xeon 1231 v3/no oc and im not sure whether I can turn the fan off when below a temperature threshold?

If you plug your fan into the CPU header, no. You'd have to plug it into a system header; even then, your mobo would have to support 0% fan speed, and you'd need to calibrate that fan to adjust with CPU temps.

Or, use a 3rd party fan controller, that's an option too.

If your motherboard supports that low of a fan speed, sure.

Otherwise, there's a software option called SpeedFan.

Moved to Air Cooling.

this would be using a system header or normal cpu header?

It could be either depending on the board. The cpu fan header tends to be more reliable--especially for pwm.

how can I find a board that supports it? I was going to go with a cheap b85 for around 70AUD but now I want to consider this.

Look at the motherboard manual or an in-depth review that covers the bios. Other than that, most newer boards should support it while using SpeedFan.

how new? Like cheap b85 new or h97 new? Need to find a board for my xeon/cpu cooler

Sorry for the lack of specificity. B85 boards should be able to support that but I can't be entirely sure since this is a bit of a specific criteria not usually covered in the specs.
