Ok so this is gonna be a long one because there is no easy way to explain it [insert first post stuff here].

I currently am running a pretty basic build and the only things noteworthy in it are a Pentium 3258 that was a dud with no overclocking and a MSI  GTX 750 ti (non twin frozr) http://c1.neweggimages.com/BizIntell/item/14/127/14-127-784/pro.jpg

I'm gonna be putting a new gaming build together for Black Friday because i want to play Fallout 4, Ass. Creed Syndicate and anything the steam winter sale brings to my table.

My budget is $1500 usd and I've gotten to the point where I'm torn. I can either copy my current install of Windows 7 to a new ssd, saving myself enough money to afford a GTX 970 or I can spend a few dollars get a clean copy of windows 7 and end up with a GTX 960 (the 4gb model from Gigabyte), if I find I need more power i can SLI another on an MSI Z97A Krait Edition motherboard. I'm leaning more towards the the GTX 960 because

1. A clean install to wipe all viruses would be nice

2. GTX 960 has windows 10 support

3. GTX 960 has 4gb of vram and I can SLI easily

If i can get some advice/ some pointers/ cons to each side that'd be great.

Do not get Nvidia cards at this budget.

The 280, 285 & 380 cost about the same as a 960 and preform better.

Even if you were getting a 960, 4GB of VRam is more than that card can use so get a 2GB card.

The 390 preforms better than the 970 and more than double the Vram

take a look on newegg and few others there are quite a few that have come out

Those are incapable of fully utilising the VRAM properly - get a 380

Don't get RM - overpriced and bad secondary capacitors - SeaSonic, EVGA G2/GS, Super Flower, XFX.

OK, wow that's a low price, I'm gonna take this and swap one thing, the g. skill memory for corsair, also add my white monitor, thanks. I had no idea I could have performance that cheaply.
