Ghetto liquid filtering

I feel like I'm retarded right now. Spent the last two hours trying to figure out a solution.

 

Went to the hardware store after my shift ended at work to pick up a can of spraypaint for my PSP (deets later this month) and I found that they also sell isopropanol (isopropylic alcohol) in 1/2 and 1L bottles so I figured I might as well grab one of those since my supply is nearly gone.

 

Problem is that in accordance to current legislation for prevention of idiots ingesting dangerous chemicals, they can no longer sell "pure" isopropanol (clear, non-colored) and they now have to import and sell dyed one. It's purple-blue-ish and it's annoying as hell. The pigment seems to persist after the alcohol evaporates (found this out because the cap wasn't tightened properly and it dripped on the white cap slightly, which is now visibly bluer). Normally this wouldn't bother me, but I intend on using it to degrease and clean my PSP's case with it before painting it white  and I'm wary of the blue pigment making its way into the paint, forcing me to add more layers of paint.

 

What I need is a ghetto method of filtering at least SOME of the pigment from the isopropanol. Keep in mind that this stuff evaporates pretty fast and whatever I do needs to be fairly fast and efficient. If needed I could do it multiple times as long as the stupid pigment levels go lower (From the label it seems like it's 90% isopropanol and 10% pigment and, I assume, water).

 

Coffee filters don't seem to work. Or at least the ones I've used didn't seem to do anything than get slightly blue.

 

If you're wondering why I want to use isopropanol to clean the case before painting it, it's because it won't damage the plastic, unlike other cleaning products might. Keep in mind that once the first layer of paint goes on, if there's any residue layer on the plastic, the paint will chip/peel off at some point.

 

For those wondering, it's glossy white.

@revsilverspine Use something else, like lemon juice. Or white spirits which is 70%. It does exactly the same thing. It won't damage the plastic.

walmart's website shows they sell 99% isopropyl alcohol and based on the pictures they appear to have clear fluid.

One of the only reasons people use isopropanol alcohol is because it does not react to grease like water does and it evaporates quick, exactly the same as a high percentage alcohol.

But is that really even morality? Is it not moral to let people do what they want if it is not harming others? Drinking isopropyl alcohol seems to fall into that category to me. I think a simply warning on the label advising people not to drink it should do just fine.

100% ethanol is actually 95% ethanol WITH FREAKING BLUE PIGMENT. Same problem as with the isopropanol

so i just spoke with my dad over the phone he is a chemist and said you probably wont be able to filter out the dye he suggested using any good dish washing detergent or using the alcohol then scrubbing it with water because the dye is most likely water soluble i would test both of those out on a scrap piece of plastic before you do it to your psp. hope that helps
