Hey guys!

Has anyone bought the windows 10 IoT starter pack? Is it any good? What about the programming part, is it easily integrated together? Is the 109$ Cad price tag reasonable? Im curious as i love to tinker with electronics and the pack seemed interesting but i couldnt find a review on it!

Here is a list of everything that is included!

Get a Raspberry Pi and an arduino, then start using Linux, because Windows is not the best platform for tinkerers.

Nothing prevents me from putting another os on the sd card if windows IoT is actually bad

I believe it's called MSX IoT starter pack ;)

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

You can certainly install MSX on it at first, but I would save myself the hassle. The Pi 2 is still a developer platform, Windows 10 on that thing is not going to be a fun experience. Worse than Windows RT.

What about the actual kit, the os is a non issue, Are the sensors interesting? Is the breadboard good?

I think the kit itself looks good. A nice started kit for tinkerers.

That sounds good! I was looking at present ideas for christmeas ( i know, its early ) and i thought it would be something i'd love receiving, but if the components are actually useless, i'd rather not!

To me it looks like it is a  good kit to get started.  You have the core essentials to get started with a simple project. I believe you do save a several dollars by going with the kit for stuff you'll probably get anyways.

Windows 10 IoT is a great platform to develop on for starters, especially if you are new to programming. Why? Because you get to develop Windows Apps (Universal apps). So you can develop them them or partially on Windows 10 with powerful IDE tools like Visual Studio, you have access to the mass power of .NET framework, Universal Apps framework, and you can use C# (You don't need Windows for C#, and while .NET core is coming to Linux open source, you have access to the full .NET framework).

The downside of Windows 10 IoT is that you don't have a desktop. All you can do, is send to it a Windows 10 Windows App (Universal App) to launch at startup automatically. And that is it, while Linux, well you have or can have a desktop environment. So it depends on what you are trying to do.

MSX is a computer architecture, not an OS. And therefor you can't install "MSX on it'.. maybe an emulator under Linux based OS, but that is about it.

And how do you know that Windows 10 is "not going to be a fun experience", and "Worst than Windows RT"? What proof do you have?
