Hello,

I am currently building a home network attached storage server. I need some answers on the category "ECC | Non-ECC RAM". I have done research on the differences between them both but the motherboard and RAM I have now are not ECC (Error-correcting code memory). I know ECC is a big helper when it comes down to installing on servers/nas due to it can stop the whole os from crashing if a stick fails.

I have also some mates what have used non-ecc in their home servers before and it has worked fine for years.

I will be doing of-site backups regularly to keep the data extra secure.

The RAM I have now is HyperX Fury (1 stick of 8GB)

Thanks.

at most it will stop a odd document going corrupt, i can't remember the disadvantages of ecc memory but i think besides cpu and motherboard compatibility only a couple small ones.

Okay, The thing is like Toddwjp said, I will have to re-buy ECC supported RAM, Motherboard and Processor... In conclusion It is not worth it. Anyway Thanks for your reply!
