Use: music, gaming

Budget: <US$100

What I want: medium-ish soundstage (these are closed so I dont expect them to be wide), good sound quality (clear trebles, deep bass, nice vocals, nice mids), comfort (i love leatherette <3 )

Which is better between the M40X and HXC2? or are there any other better choices?

HyperX Cloud Core if going with one of those, otherwise the only other headset I would deem worthwhile for under $100 would be the Skullcandy SLYR which is made courtesy of Astro after the buyout. Now, you mention the M40X, if going that route, have you looked at the much cheaper Creative Aurvana Live! ? I would trade an overpriced M50X for a CAL! personally (I sold my own M50 after learning how overhyped and overpriced it was compared to other options I had on hand) or perhaps an NVX XPT100. If you want the HyperX Cloud series, why not also check out the model they originate from for much cheaper since you are also interested in standalone headphones, Takstar Pro80, should be able to find for $50 - $70.
