Avast acts weird...

NARAKU_KAT

Hi, i just arrived home, turned my pc on and i'm having troubles with avast antivirus, when i try to play any video on youtube it blocks it and says it's a threat and won't play anything, also, facebook's chat doesn't show, i've had some issues since i installed Windows 8.1 on this lap 3 weeks ago, but this is the first time such a thing happens, got any lead?

I'm using Opera browser BTW...

Don't get mad, get even...

Remove Avast!, it causes more problems than it fixes.
Just use windows defender.

Yea uninstall Avast and remove all settings. I personally don't use any antivirus, even disable Windows Defender because they just get in the way. If you really want it just reinstall it but only after uninstalling it.

See if there's any illegitimate extensions in Opera.
Then run Malwarebytes.

Only after you've ran malwarebytes, should you uninstall Avast. This is to make sure that there really isn't a threat on your PC (most likely an extension in Opera that was automatically downloaded), before you remove avast to reinstall it.

Avast! causes so many problems.

Like using 99% disk usage on a fresh install. Or causing updates to fail, leaving you with nothing but a black screen and a cursor, or so many false positives that you can't even use your browser (Not saying that's what's going on here, but it could be).

In any case, third party AV's are generally crap; slow, useless, heavy, and generally terrible programs.

*Sigh*.

Just because it doesn't happen for you, doesn't mean it's not going to happen.

I deal with hundreds of computers a week, I think I have a pretty large testing size of computers.

Computers ranging to powerful desktops and laptops to $300-400 best buy specials; any of which have a seemingly 50/50 chance of working fine/going horribly horribly wrong.
