Question about AT&T Next program

I'm currently in the AT&T Next program. I owe $145 to trade in my phone. I was wondering if I paid that amount and traded it in, would I have to get another phone from them? I wanted to do the iPhone Upgrade Program but I think I'm stuck with AT&T Next now.
