i3 vs i5

i have an i3 4170, but i want to upgrade to an i5 4460

 

is the i5 better?

 

the i3 is clocked at 3.7ghz but the i5 is clocked at 3.2 ghz

 

is a higher clocked i3 better than a lower clocked i5?

Do the math and you will notice the high gains of the i5

I really wouldn't, as honestly, it would be better if you went from Pentium to i5 rather than i3 to i5.

well, the 4170 isn't far off an i5, it's a pretty strong CPU

 

but, OP, the i5 wil be better

nah - it has a lot more frame drops in games that use 3 or 4 cores - see Witcher 3 - the i3 will have a similar average but a lot lower minimum

The i5 is better, the extra 2 cores would help you do tasks better, video editing, gaming, etc.

I second this, the i3 can hold up to a R9 380 in some games.

an i3 can hold it's own with a 390 depending on the game - a 380 is easy.
