In my opinion you are ALWAYS better off getting something like M50Xs and a desktop microphone than a headset.
Gaming peripherals in terms of audio are almost always far more expensive than they should be, and do not offer that amazing audio performance.

I have a pair of M50Xs and I love them to death.

If you never record your voice/Skype go with open backed.
Open-backed headphones have a lot of noise bleed so if there are people around you that would be bothered by your audio, or microphones that could pick up the sound from your headphones you are better off not getting open-backed headphones.

Use closed-back headphones for recording, voice chat, and in loud or shared spaces.

They are still pretty much the same. Astro is a reliable company.

They can be I mean they are not the best I have ever heard really!

I use a rode NT mic for recording everything for mic wise so hence looking to upgrade I have my own room so open back and closed back isnt super important !

What made you recommend these mate?:)

The MMX 300 is a DT770 with a microphone, so if looking at reviews also look there. Versus the 650, they are two very different headphones.

If you simply picked these two because they cost about what you want to spend, I would suggest starting over and considering what you want instead of what you can get. There are plenty of good starter headphones that are cheaper. The audiophile hobby is about discovering the sound signature you prefer and working your way towards that. There is no good better best.

I certainly don't need one, as I have plenty of other heaphones, but dang it I'm a headphone nerd and I want to hold one if only for a few minutes.

I bought a refurbished pair off Amazon about a week ago, unfortunately only one side worked so I had to send it back and am now currently waiting for a refund. I am really debating if I need to buy another pair, especially since I just spent $200 on a pair of M4U 2's. I was doing so well of not buying new headphones for several months too. :P
