Windows vista.

Hey guys, so i was just thinking the other day about Windows Vista. It was the operating system i first gamed on and used (i'm 14 if your wondering) it may sound dumb but i kinda want to go back to it. 2 questions, can i downgrade from windows 10, to the last updated version of vista, and will it still support the most common games and programs??

No, you cannot downgrade from 10 to vista.

You can upgrade some PC's from XP to Vista for Free (Also not all)

 

You have to buy vista and reinstall windows as windows vista!

Vista was broken and horrible.

 

If it's just for the nostalgia, crack it (I mean it's just for fun right?) and run it on VMWare.

It was only horrible until Service Pack 2. It is still a very good OS that is far better for power users. And it is actually more secure than other versions of Windows.

Microsoft ironed out the major bugs. Its only small patches now just like Windows 7 and 8.1.

I would go for Windows 7 or 10. Best operating systems I've ever used.

8.1 brought many performance improvements where games perform better on 8.1

Performance at the cost of functionality. Versions of Windows after it are harder on CPU, use more RAM and take up far more disk space. And its especially noticeable with 32bit versions of Vista. It uses well under 500MB of RAM while Windows 7, 8.1 and 10 use close to 1GB. Vista's only problem was retarded OEM not realising that 1GB of RAM was no longer enough.

Think of it this way, would you rather

A: An OS that is secure and does exactly what you want when you want-regardless of your experience with computers

B: An OS that strips out functionality for speed, higher resource usage, lower security and a GUI that isn't as user friendly-especially to those who are new to using computers

 

Edit: BTW, do you actually like Windows 2K? I find that in some ways its worse than ME (which needs to be constantly defragged), and far behind XP.

Vista is like Windows 8 in a way; they both got a lot of unfair flak, even if their isssues have been resolved. People just remember what ws wrong with them at launch, even if they are both perfectly workable OS's. I actually used Vista for a few years before going to 7 and don't remember anything too bad about it. XP was worse IMO. 

 

as for the OP... there is no downgrade to Vista from 10, only to 7. But it would likely support most modern applications.

Nah it's just that the first computer I got ran 2000. 

It's nostalgic, but I don't miss it. 

Besides, the introduction sound was much better than later Windows versions.

I will give you that-it does have a better startup sound. (And I was asking as I have it installed on my Dual Pentium III rig-which is right next to me, I was going to install ME, but there is the small issue of only being able to use 1 of the Pentium III).
