MAking computer speakers out of akg k240 studios

Honestly, I wouldn't even bother, since they were designed to be within inches of your head, trying to even fill the room with sound is pretty ludicrous imo.

However, yes it is completely possible, no need for any extra equipment, just hook them up to your receiver. You wire them just the same as you would speakers, you have a positive and negative terminal on the driver, you'll want to solder the cables on the terminal at the driver end, which will look like a smaller version of this..

And then you can terminate them to another pair of terminals that sit in the box, like so.

After that connect it to your receiver and you're all game. Although, as I said, I wouldn't recommend.

Good luck mate  :P

I have a pair of akg 240 studios at home. They broke when my sister dropped her backpack on them. I tried to fix them and they worked well enough, but the casing was broken too. I got a pair of 550's for my birthday, and now I'm thinking of turning them into speakers. My plan so far is to hook them up to terminals and regular speaker cable, but I'm not so sure how to get them to my computer, would I need a preamp and receiver and all that? I  have a quad 4 ohms receiver and pre amp for my tv right next to my desk would that work? I have the box for them but haven't done any electrical work yet. I do have experience soldering and such so. Any advice on how to set these up is greatly apprieciated.

Oh, wait, you mean to tell me you need to know the question now?
Well, I can't answer that.

Thanks, I was thinking by hooking them up to a receiver and amp they might be loud enough. Any other ideas on what to do with them, I'd hate to waste them.

Please also keep in mind the maximum power those headphone drivers can handle is 200mW.  If you go over that amount to try to make them loud enough you WILL break the drivers and they'll start to sound terrible.

"Pardon my French but this is just about the most ignorant blanket statement I've ever read. And though this is the internet, I'm not even exaggerating."
