Hey guys,

I'm sitting in front of a non booting windows computer with a booted linux distribution (Kaspersky rescue disk).

Is there a possibility to figure out what windows version it ist (win 10/8/7)?

Maybe it is visible via the file system?

Would appreciate help a lot.

Maybe if the \MSDOS.SYS exists it will tell you. I'm sure it exists in older Windows systems, but you can try it. And if it still works, you can install

sudo apt-get install chntpw(works for windows up to 7)

and then browse Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ (look for similar path).

Otherwise, maybe this will help:

or check the wallpapers. That usually gives it away.
