Hi everyone,

I'm starting my third year at University this week and one of my modules this year is Advanced Mobile Development.  Basically we'll be making an app for Android over one semester and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a cheap Android tablet with somewhat decent performance.

I don't know if the app we're making will be a game or how intensive it will be but something cheap that can run kind of decently would be great.  I'm predominantly an iOS user so I've no experience with what's good or bad on the Android tablet market.

Any advice is much appreciated.

From what I could find online, Nexus 7 was the cheapest, and that it's stock Android is very appealing.  Genymotion looked interesting too.  Should I go beyond the module in terms of developing I'll definitely look into that.

Thanks guys I'll more than likely be getting the Nexus 7.

I got a phone from school to develop and test on... they had Iphones, ipads, Android devices, Windows devices and some more. Maybe worth a shot?

It seems like they've decided we're just gonna use emulators as they don't believe it is fair for people to have to buy a device for a module, which I agree with.  I'm sure part of the module is to test and deploy to a device so we might be given a shared device like you mention or something.  It's first week back so I'll definitely ask about it.
