I'm deciding between two rigs (NOTE: no PSUs because PCPartPicker is giving me issues), which one do you think is better?

Option A:

Storage: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive  ($97.39 @ Amazon) Pretend it's the 500 GB version
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Video Card  ($703.98 @ Newegg)
Total: $1589.22
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available
Generated by PCPartPicker 2015-09-21 06:09 EDT-0400

(CPU custom loop will cool it)

Option B: (This one's a little more complex)

CPU: Intel Core i7-5960X 3.0GHz 8-Core Processor  ($1009.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: ASRock X99E-ITX/ac Mini ITX LGA2011-3 Narrow Motherboard  ($248.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO 500GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive  ($174.52 @ Amazon)
Total: $1785.47
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available
Generated by PCPartPicker 2015-09-21 06:10 EDT-0400

(CPU custom loop will cool it)

I will upgrade the storage when I get the GPU (waiting for Pascal)

Also, I'll plasti-dip the MOBO bits that can be removed and the RAM.

Intel Core i7-6700K | Corsair H105 | Asus Z170I PRO GAMING | G.Skill TridentZ Series 16GB | 950 PRO 512GB M.2

The second one doesn't have a GPU sooo.... What is the intended use for a hypothetical machine you want?

I 99% doubt you have a need for a 5960x.

I think that the 5960x does not have an igpu,so you will only have a pc that wont work

I won't be using it until I get a Pascal GPU. I'm patient and I will wait.

Waiting for Pascal.

the 5960x does not include a gpu. you won't be able to use that computer without a video card, therefore you might as well wait until you can buy everything. Also, a 5960x is a pure and complete waste of money if you're playing games with it, in fact it will give you lower gaming performance than the 4790k. The first build makes a lot more sense, but the motherboard is completely unnecessary. Get an asus z97-a. Also, get a decent cooler, a k cpu doesn't make sense if you don't overclock it; I suggest a dark rock pro 3

for gaming?

When it's complete, yes. But they will also be used for editing and photo work as well as audio production. The 5960X build won't be used until I get my hands on a Pascal GPU and a WD Black 1 TB. It is a LAN and travel rig, so no form factor changes.

Are people not seeing the print that's NOT the actual PCpartPicker list? I've mentioned all of it in the OP. I'm using it for video work AND gaming, so I don't want a Xeon.

you stated that you didn't include psus because of pcpartpicker errors and that you're waiting for pascal. It doesn't say ANYTHING about video work, xeons and gaming. The second build will be a useless brick until you buy a gpu, so if you're going for that you might as well wait for prices to drop or better parts to come out - both are likely to happen before pascal drops.

Anways I doubt the kind of work you'll be doing will require a 5960x. Go with the first build, and spend the money towards other parts, or something.

I'm not on a real budget here. I know it'll be useless until I get a GPU. I'll purchase all components once Pascal releases. I'm bound to make changes to both configs.

I just want some advice before I try to compile a final rig. I'm just asking which one you think is better. There's no need to be so harsh about it. If you think the thread is pointless, then leave.

Neither. Because if you're waiting for Pascal (for whatever reason) you might as well wait on every other part of your system to get an updated version. Maybe when the 68xx/69xx Skylake CPUs (theoretically) come to fruition, or even Kaby Lake, you may come to a better decision.

Right now, however, I don't recommend you decide right now, as there's not much point.

We also don't know when Pascal will see its launch, sooo...

If you want the 4790K, you could get that, and still be able to use it because it has an integrated GPU.

If you want the 5960X, you could get that, but you would need to get a discrete video card. If you're waiting for Pascal, put an old GPU of yours in or just get a GT 210 for now. You won't exactly be gaming on it, but it's better than nothing.

If you're waiting for Pascal, however, you might as well wait for more Skylake/Kaby Lake, or even Zen while you're at it, since that's a thing we're waiting for also (assuming of course you're not an Intel purist).

Source? Because all the references I can find to that time refer to HBM2 rather than Pascal itself.

Sorry if I came off as harsh, it wasn't my intention. All I'm saying is that for the best result you should wait until you're ready to buy before thinking about the parts. It is also impossible to establish which is "better". Different builds are good at different things, especially when you take the price into account. If this was only for gaming, the 4790k would be the better choice; however for heavy streaming and content production the 5960x could be worth the investment.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨
