New CPU > Will not boot ( But everything starts ) > VGA Led comes on!?

alleyn321

Hello!

Currently I got new CPU in my system. From Fz8350 to Fx9590 ( No! I did not "upgrade" from 8320 to 9590 but bought it from my brother )

When I try to turn on my Computer everything seems to be fine everything lights up ( Fans , Motherboard etc ) but after about 30 sec VGA LED Comes on on my motherboard. I checked the GPU if plugged in correctly in the PCI slot and also checked the Cables. Still get the VGA light

Any ideas?

Tried to reset CMOS using the CMOS Resset Switch at the back of the Motherboard. Did not Work still get the VGA Led

Are you running the latest bios?

Not Sure but most likely yes since I have been using the motherboard for few months with my older CPU

install back the old CPU and see if it can boot up

then

download and load the BIOS version 1703 into a thumbdrive formatted as FAT

https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/CROSSHAIR_V_FORMULA/HelpDesk_Download/

in the BIOS find the updater and select the drive where the BIOS file is located

First can I somehow check what version of BIOS do I have? Since I have Custom watercooling I dont want to drain it again and find out that I already have the latest Bios

Y'all assuming the CPU is compatible with the board.

According to Asus themselves, the max you can have on that mobo is the FX8350. That's why you're having issues.

The 9590 is a 220W TDP CPU, while the board accepts CPUs with a max TDP of 140W

But why he has problems when reinatslled FX 8350? Socket is a toast? Can that happen even? :) Just curious...

I think it can happen. CPU asking for more than the mobo can deliver, mobo tries to deliver more, fries itself. Don't quote me on that™

A bios reset would be advised before trying to boot up again.

Hmmm... That's usefull to know. I always thought that all that stuff disappeared as we have tons of security stuff in our mobos these days...

Nah. I've ran into so much crap when upgrading/changing critical parts that it's reflex to reset the BIOS after major work. Hell, I even have a button to do that now (my motherboard has 2 pins that reset the CMOS if they're shorted so I pulled out an old power switch from a case and plugged it in, since I can't be bothered to take the GPU out every time I need a CMOS reset)
