Good enough power supply?

TheDogeMachine

Is a600w power supply enough for:

I7 4790k

Zotac gtx 980 awp omega

And 16 gb of ram

It's more than double what that system will use in wattage.

What PSU is it? Please don't say a CX600.... please please please...

you'd even be fine with a 550watt like this one http://pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-power-supply-p1550gts3x

Exagerating a bit, I think it'll consume 350w min.

This consumes 350W way overclocked so nah

TL;DR OCd GTX 680 and 3770k get to 356W or something like that under max load.

It's a cougar sl600w

Holy hell no. Do not power a system with that.

Antec HCG 520W is good an fairly inexpensive. Same goes for the EVGA B2.

Will it last me enough time till I can get a better one?

The ones I mentioned before will last through several upgrades if you so desire. If you need something to get you going for a bit then look for cheaper Seasonic units.

I can't exactly buy a psu ATM, but why is the cougar sl600 so bad?

There's nothing from Cougar that I would trust in my own system, I'll say that much. As I go through their OEMs list I see no OEMs that I can say give you a good PSU guaranteed so I vote pass on it.

Have you already purchased the PSU?

I will ;) I still don't get why it's so bad. People say it's quiet, small, and doesn't get too hot, I don't see what's wrong with it but then again I'm a noob when it comes to power supplies xD

I would avoid overclocking as abundance of caution, the worst thing about cougar is they make PSUs with sleeve bearing fans, those don't last. But you can use it till you save some money for a decent one. Seasonic, EVGA, Super Flower, Silverstone, Corsair (TO A EXTENT) and Cooler Master all make decent PSUs, but ALWAYS check the model since for example corsair makes basically the best PSU on the market (Maybe EVGA stole the title tho, but both got perfect ratings) but at the low end they are bad.

It's about reliability. Capacitors can be low quality, the fan is sleeve bearing, soldering can be sloppy, just too many unknowns.
