Using Y-splitters

Go to solution Solved by W-L,

Hello, my motherboard, an ASRock Z97 Extreme4, has insufficient fan headers with software control. I'm planning on purchasing 2 4pin to 4pin and 3pin Y-splitters to connect a 140mm fan (0.2A rating, 4pin) and a 120mm fan (0.4A rating, 3pin) to each. I then want to connect the y-splitter to the fan headers on my motherboard. Will I still be able to use voltage control to lower the fanspeed and is there any danger to this setup? Thanks!

You will be fine but if they are all 4 pin fans and you want to group PWM control them something like this would be perfect since it takes power from the PSU but the PWM signal from the header to control the fans. For the 3 pins using the splitter on the motherboard is not an issue:
