Depends on the games and settings. You don't NEED super high end graphics cards unless you want to play everything at ultra settings. If you're fine with medium then a single GTX 970 is more than enough.

You can do either. The 970 SLI is great, but then you need to start worrying about VRAM issues. You could go a single or dual 980(s) and have a little bit better buffer. Lastly you could go with a single 980ti and be fine running most games at high/ultra @4k with 50+ FPS (in most cases).

depends what you're going to be gaming. if its just LoL, WOW, HS, CS:GO, and the like I think linus did a video where they did 4k with a 280x.

I have a 980ti, and a fury x, they both do well, and if you're gonna spend the money to go 4k, you may as well go big on your GPU as well.

Why do you wanna do 4k?

Can I recommend GTA V then. Honestly that game looks incredible at 4K, even with a few settings not on full. Rockstars extra effort with the 4K textures really shows.

okay lol. Have you compared 4k to 144hz at 1440p? like in person.

I mean 4k does look great. I'm playing MGS5 at 4k on the Asus 4k monitor using my fury x, it really does look great, but for some games i wish i had a 1440p monitor. Like League. Playing league at 4k is not a fun experience, at least imo, and i think better refresh rate at 1440p would make league look good.

Know which monitor/tv you're gonna get?

I have already played through the game multiple times, and I cannot agree more with you. If you have not checked out "The Witcher 3" you should do that.

This is my opinion: Higher res is unnoticeable, when i was playing MGS5 i couldn't tell when i had it on 1440p or 4k(although this weekend i'll try GTAV because above posters say that actually looks different). I don't have a monitor thats faster than 60hz, so i can't say i'd do higher framerate over higher res, though. So i may possibly get a 144hz monitor just to see which i like better.

Although playing with medium settings at 4K would be a little silly... whats the point of having all that pixel density if you use low res shadows, textures, etc. :P

Intel i5-4690K @ 3.8GHz || Gigabyte Z97X-SLI || 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws X 1600MHz || Asus GTX 760 2GB @ 1150 / 6400 || 128GB A-Data SX900 + 1TB Toshiba 7200RPM || Corsair RM650 || Fractal 3500W

Before I went sli I could either play 4k medium settings or drop res to 1440p ultra

And the 1440p looked better than 4k medium

I prefrer 1440p 144hz honestly.

I've got a 4k monitor and a Rog Swift, and I hardly ever use the 4k monitor anymore

Higher frame rate over higher resolution.
